According to The National Law Review, a judge recently reduced Tesla's amount to pay a plaintiff in emotional damages.
The plaintiff's case against Tesla involved race harassment by employees. Tesla employees drew swastikas and nooses and racially disparaging images in the workplace. The plaintiff was initially awarded $6.9 million in emotional distress damages and $130 million in punitive damages that Tesla would need to payout.
In April 2022, Tesla pursued a motion to reduce the damages owed to the plaintiff. The judge in this motion reduced the money owed to the plaintiff for the emotional distress charges.
Tesla advocates only to payout the plaintiff $300,000 for emotional distress. The judge disagreed with Tesla's suggested payout and reduced the emotional distress charges to $1.5 million.
The judge also lowered the punitive damages owed to the plaintiff to $13.5 million.
