So often as business owners or managers, we focus our time and attention on the problem employees that require more coaching and training.
I recently read with great interest an article on Inc. by Joel Comm titled “The 3 Secret Signs of a Super Employee.” What a revelation!
In short summary, there are 3 tell-tale signs that a team member has more talent than he/she is openly demonstrating:
- Stars mentor naturally. They don’t just get an assignment completed better and faster. They also share their style and technique with co-workers.
- Stars listen more than they talk. Star employees are NOT the ones that make the most noise at meetings. They are the ones sitting in silence and only contribute when it’s important.
- Stars really do care. They take as much pride in the company’s work as the owner. They are focused on the business success more than their own.
These passions and commitments to excellence may not be measurable but they are certainly observable. Best practice = when you SEE it, PROMOTE it!
