Working remotely can have its challenges for any business but especially for law firms. While many law firms have been working from home for some time, it's still a good idea to understand the challenges you and your firm face when not working in your office. According to David Skinner and Karen Skinner's Attorneyatwork.com article, here are some of the common challenges law firm's are facing when working from home:
Communication
Communication seems to be the most significant problem people have while working remotely. Employees have a hard time feeling they can consult team members about a project they are working on. And other employees think that they need more clarification on expectations and instructions. Employees have reported they are confused about who is working on which case and specific tasks.
Communication problems can lead to issues within your firm and the needs of clients not being met. Ensure that you are clear with your instructions and check on your employees to see if they understand your instructions and expectations. Consider adding a daily or weekly meeting to discuss ongoing projects and clarify the next steps as a team. Depending on the system your firm uses, you might have a program that allows you to message one another on your computer. Messaging can be another excellent form of communication with your team to send a quick question or clarification that doesn't need a meeting. Messaging each other can also allow you and your team to say a quick good morning or see if a team member needs assistance with a new client case.
And if you still feel like your firm needs to work on your communication, ask your team what would help them!
