Johnson & Johnson said recent tests showed that Johnson’s Baby Powder was free of asbestos.
According to Reuters.com, 155 tests were conducted by two different third-party labs using four different testing methods on samples used from the same bottle tested by the FDA.
This is not the first time Johnson & Johnson has tested their baby powder to disprove the FDA. The company also tested their product back in October and claimed they received results reporting the powder did not contain any asbestos.
According to Reuters.com, FDA officials said different test outcomes could have resulted from the fact that contaminants are not uniformly dispersed throughout talc and there is no standard test for asbestos in talc.
Johnson & Johnson said its investigation concluded the probable causes for the FDA’s reported results were either test sample contamination or analyst error at the lab, or possibly both.
In October, around 33,000 bottles of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder was recalled by the company after the FDA found traces of asbestos in samples taken from the bottles.
Asbestos is a known carcinogen that has been linked to deadly mesothelioma. Johnson & Johnson faces more than 15,000 lawsuits from consumers claiming its talc products like Johnson’s Baby Powder, caused their cancer.
