Google recently announced it has changed the way its search engine works, particularly for those searching via a mobile device. The algorithm changes now reward sites that are optimized for mobile.
What does it mean for your website to be “optimized for mobile”? It means your website automatically configures to fit the searchers smart phone screen and is designed to be read and look good at the same time preventing that annoying “pinch and spread” to read content. Google made these changes because people are changing the way they search for content, and the statistics are staggering:
- Searches are mobile devices are growing 10 times the rate of desktop searches
- Mobile searches have increased more than 60% in 2014 alone
This is one of the biggest changes Google has made with regard to searches, and one to be taken seriously. According to Nathan Barling’s blog in The Next Web, “mobile friendliness” will now play a key role in the way a website is ranked, and sites not optimized for mobile will appear much lower down on Google’s search pages. You can read Mr. Barling’s blog here.
If your firm’s website is not optimized for mobile, it is worth considering making the investment. Being “below the fold” when a prospective client is searching for representation is not where any firm wants to be.
