According to CBS News, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released a list of 59 hand sanitizers that they are warning consumers not to use. Some of the sanitizers on the list have been recalled and others the FDA has recommended that they be recalled.
They are specifically warning against hand sanitizers that contain methanol, also known as wood alcohol. Some of the brands on the list are sold at popular stores like Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club. CBS stated that methanol “can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and deadly if swallowed.”
The FDA recommends everyone checks their hand sanitizers for methanol and throw away any sanitizers that do contain methanol.
