As a lawyer, it is always important to continue learning and reevaluating so that your law firm can continue to grow. In an article by Jacob Sapochnick of the Enchanting Lawyer, he shares some of the things he has learned from running his law practice.
Specialize. Sapochnick says, “You are not all things to all people. Decide on your niche, then narrow your focus and broaden your appeal.” Having an area of law you specialize in is a great way to stand out amongst other attorneys. Clients and prospective law firms are looking to work with lawyers who specialize in one area of law. This can help you stand out amongst other attorneys.
Innovate. Find ways to expand on the skills that will help your law firm grow. You can look at taking online classes, attending webinars or reading up on ways to grow your practice. During this time, it is also a good idea to become more comfortable using technology. Set aside time on your calendar either weekly or daily to become more familiar with using technology like video conferencing or another resource to help you stay connected to your team and clients. Think about new, better ways to do things at your firm and take the time to learn. Sapochnick states, “When you stop being innovative, you will stop growing – and your firm will start declining.”
