There may be times during your data manipulations that you need to identify every 7th row, or every 13th row – every Nth row, for example.
Recently, a colleague contacted me and asked how to complete this function. She wanted to take a random sampling of her data by taking every 13th row of data and copying and pasting to a new spreadsheet.
To perform this action, enter a new column in your spreadsheet. In the first row of this column, enter the formula =MOD(ROW(),13). Copy the formula down each row. Now you will see the formula count to 13 over and over, probably starting with 0 and counting to 12.
Now, apply filters to each column and filter out each 0 or 12. You can then manipulate the data as needed.
We love feedback from our customers and implement suggestions often. What shortcut do you use the most?
